Building density may be conceived of in terms of surface of building land and available floor surfaces. It was studied throughout the 20th-century by numerous researchers in urban and architectural forms. However, over the past decade, architects and researchers in the field have been favoring the notion of perceived density. As far as apartment buildings in Switzerland are concerned, recent projects resulted in dense and compact buildings, which may open new avenues away from ordinary production [flyer].
